A recent graduate of Unity 4 Orphan’ ESL program in Nicaragua is now an intern assisting other students in becoming bilingual, an excellent path to breaking the cycle of poverty. We’re so proud of her mastery of the English language and willingness to pass on her knowledge. We know she has great potential as an English teacher someday, and will help others reach brighter futures along the way!

Thanks to funds raised from our 2nd Annual Wave-A-Thon, our students in Nicaragua have begun learning from the new ESL curriculum from Oxford University. This raises the quality of instruction for the kids, providing a better vehicle to mastery of the English language, and more opportunities for their futures!

We recently introduced Juliana, a 5th grader from San Diego who graciously chose to support Unity 4 Orphans for a school project by making stuffed animal “companions” for the children at the orphanages we serve. A few weeks ago, Juliana joined us on a service trip to Mexico to deliver her handmade creations, and brought joy to kids who need it most.

We’re pleased to introduce Dennyse Urias, one of two new teachers at the orphanages in Tijuana that Unity 4 Orphans supports. She holds a degree in pedagogy, which is the theory and practice of learning, and focuses on the influence of and by the social, political, and psychological development of learners. She has always enjoyed teaching others, and we’re thankful to have her as a part of the U4O team, bringing her unique talents to kids who need it most!

Current university students were enthusiastic to guide their younger counterparts and shared admirable goals, like helping their families and communities once they graduate. It’s been a full year since our last service trip to visit the orphanages in Tijuana. As much as it’s been hard for us, during our first trip of 2021 we came to see just how hard it has been on the 33 kids at our partner orphanage in Tijuana.

Over twenty surfers and nearly a dozen volunteers came together to raise $20,000 to provide vulnerable children in Nicaragua access to education, counseling, nutrition and medical care.

Ed and Xochitl Andrade and their family recently traveled to Ecuador to visit the children at the San Vicente de Paul children’s orphanage in Quito to deliver Christmas gifts, and clothing for over 60 children, and develop connections for future visits to Ecuador through Unity 4 Orphans.
