Period Supply Drive Brings Dignity to Orphanage Girls in Mexico

Unity 4 Orphans intern, Lauren Salaz, is hosting a Period Drive to collect feminine hygiene products for the older girls and teens at the orphanages in Tijuana. For the month of April, Lauren and her supportive sorority sisters are gathering supplies on the SDSU campus, as well as in the greater San Diego community. Caring for this basic need gives the girls dignity and lets them know that they are not alone!

We recently introduced Juliana, a 5th grader from San Diego who graciously chose to support Unity 4 Orphans for a school project by making stuffed animal “companions” for the children at the orphanages we serve. A few weeks ago, Juliana joined us on a service trip to Mexico to deliver her handmade creations, and brought joy to kids who need it most.

Two New Teachers Hired in Mexico!

We’re pleased to introduce Dennyse Urias, one of two new teachers at the orphanages in Tijuana that Unity 4 Orphans supports. She holds a degree in pedagogy, which is the theory and practice of learning, and focuses on the influence of and by the social, political, and psychological development of learners. She has always enjoyed teaching others, and we’re thankful to have her as a part of the U4O team, bringing her unique talents to kids who need it most!

Unity 4 Orphans would like to introduce our first intern! A junior at San Diego State University, Lauren is majoring in Comparative International Studies and minoring in Spanish. She was introduced to U4O through her scholarship, which promotes work with nonprofit organizations. She appreciates the way U4O supports children who have had difficult lives and looks forward to practicing her Spanish, but especially to spending time with the kids.
