We’re pleased to introduce a dedicated student in El Salvador who’s learning English as a second language and visualizing a brighter future through education and holistic care.
This Giving Season we’re featuring children who embody our vision of what can happen when we provide and supplement the resources necessary for them to thrive. Our goal to raise $150,000 this holiday season will enable us to continue our investment in the lives of vulnerable children in Latin America, including our young but thriving ESL program in El Salvador.
U4O’s Saturday Program Brings Education 4 Change to El Salvador
We opened a Saturday program in El Salvador less than a year ago and are already seeing encouraging progress in many of the students. In the area surrounding the school where the program meets each week, it’s a struggle for many to feed their families. With an incredibly high cost of living and government monopolies on independent markets, children often drop out of school to earn income and care for younger siblings.
My goal is to give the kids the opportunity to fight for better lives. They have seen all the bad in El Salvador and by teaching them English we’re helping them envision something better. I also see it as an opportunity to teach them about the love of Jesus; we want to improve their lives in every area.
–Becky, El Salvador Program Director
The Saturday program gives children a safe place to belong, play, and envision possibilities beyond the poverty surrounding them. Our in-country partners share our passion for stepping into the gaps for orphaned and vulnerable children who often have a lack of consistent healthy relationships. They foster and nurture a culture where children can flourish and through English as a second language they can envision breaking the cycle of poverty.
Learning ESL Increases Job Opportunities Substantially
For students like 13-year-old Emily in El Salvador, childhood can be full of uncertainties and unrest. She finds respite in painting and music, and dreams of a brighter future than the one she’s seen around her.
In line with U4O’s holistic approach, Becky and the team in El Salvador are dedicated to the children’s emotional and spiritual well-being. She incorporates the love of Jesus into all that they do, assigning psalms for the children to learn in English.
By learning English they’ll have better job opportunities and be less vulnerable to human trafficking, abuse, gang violence, and forced migration.
–Becky, El Salvador Program Director
Emily is passionate about learning to speak English and has learned every psalm, working intensely at her English proficiency while also understanding her value in God’s eyes. She dreams of becoming an English teacher one day and helping others to break free of poverty through education.
Bringing Counseling to Children in El Salvador in 2025
We believe in the power of Education 4 Change, a cornerstone program that helps vulnerable children through ESL, tutoring, and other educational programming, presenting pathways to better job opportunities and a more secure future. We hope to open counseling to the children served by the Saturday program to help them heal from trauma, process their emotions in healthy ways, and believe in their futures.
It’s our hope that all of the children in our programs who need counseling can receive it. We know that counseling is an integral part of a child achieving their dreams. Right now, we’re limited by funding. You can partner with Unity 4 Orphans to help us work towards this goal, which will allow children in El Salvador and beyond to receive the care necessary for lasting success.
–Caitlin Snyder, Executive Director
Holistic care makes space for children to become who God created them to be. Our dedicated partner network in Panama as well as Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, and Nicaragua is limited only by the resources we’re able to provide. Join forces with U4O this giving season and help children like Emily flourish and thrive in 2025!
