Join Unity 4 Orphans at our 5th Annual Wave-A-Thon, a unique surfing fundraiser that raises money for vulnerable children and embodies San Diego beach culture.
It’s that time of year again: mark your calendar for the morning of Saturday, September 28, and prepare to put the FUN in fundraising! This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever, with proceeds going towards U4O’s existing programs for children in all of the countries where our partners serve. Here are a few fun reasons not to miss out on this year’s Wave-A-Thon!
#1 Unity 4 Orphans’ Wave-A-Thon is a Classic San Diego Fundraiser
One of our favorite activities as San Diegans is spending a day at the beach, and the Wave-A-Thon perfectly blends that love with a cause near and dear to our hearts.
U4O started out very humbly a long time ago and it’s had an impact. Imagine how much more of an impact it’ll have with more funding. Seeing the impact of raising money here and then blessing people overseas, that’s the opportunity.
–Paul Polakowski, Board Chairman
Together we can change the lives of thousands of vulnerable children and the Wave-A-Thon is a fun and easy way to be part of their transformation.
#2 The Wave-A-Thon is a Great Way to Introduce People to U4O
Each year this event brings together all kinds of people for a common goal, introducing them to Unity 4 Orphans’ message and mission. Surfers can gather sponsors and supporters can bring along others for a fun, purpose-filled day.
The Wave-A-Thon is how I became part of U4O and it’s great to see firsthand the transformation in the children’s lives thanks to this organization.
–Nick Ospina, Advisory Board Member
Invite your friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors to join us on the sand and spend the morning surrounded by natural beauty and like-minded people stoked to raise money for kids who need it the most!
#3 Dedicate Your Love of Surfing or Boogie Boarding to a Good Cause
Combining passion with philanthropy is an incredibly fulfilling way to raise money for the children U4O serves in Latin America.
I’m an advocate for the kids and empowering them to have brighter futures. Anything we can do to give them a jump start and give them a way out of the life they’re in is an amazing opportunity. We’re raising money for a good cause and I love surfing, so it’s a great combo!
–Brian Wheeler, Surfer
We’ve seen participants of all ages surf, boogie board, and stand-up paddleboard to raise money through their sponsors, from 7 to 75!
#4 Past Wave-A-Thons Have Provided Vital Support to Vulnerable Children
Unity 4 Orphans’ past four Wave-A-Thons have each raised between 20-50K, funds which have provided vital services like classroom improvements, ESL curriculum, an increase in counselors, feeding programs, and the ability to launch support in new countries.
It’s really exciting to raise money for [vulnerable] kids and to see how it helps them long-term to achieve the next step in life.
–Beth Pico, Surfer
Every year it’s exciting to see what we can do when our community rallies together and we can’t wait to see everyone on the sand on September 28!
#5 2024’s Wave-A-Thon Will Be U4O’s Biggest Surfing Fundraiser Yet
This year’s fundraising goal is $100K and the event is set to be our biggest Wave-A-Thon yet! We hope to have live entertainment on the beach, food, and time to connect with other Unity 4 Orphans advocates. It will be an unforgettable day benefitting our worthy cause and the children served by our programs throughout Latin America.
Each year, the Wave-A-Thon generates funds necessary to power our expanding programs. The best part though isn’t the fundraising, but the energy created when people come together around an important cause, specifically vulnerable children.
–Caitlin Snyder, Executive Director
Get ready, get set, and go! It’s a great time to start gathering sponsors and inviting people to this classic event. It’s sure to be a meaningful and memorable day and we can’t wait to see you there!
