Unity 4 Orphans held our 2nd Annual Wave-A-Thon at the end of last summer, and we’re already looking forward to the next one! We were able to raise $30k toward new curriculum and ESL classes for our students in Miramar, Nicaragua. 23 surfers, including our founder Joe Brandi, hit the waves and surfed for a cause with the kids we support in mind.
Christina Werner and her three children were especially stoked to participate, with all of the kids surfing to raise money while their mom cheered them on from the shore. She first became aware of the needs of others when her own mother took her down to Mexico when she was young, and from 4th grade on, she went every year to help however she could. These trips shaped her worldview in such a powerful way that she has passed it along to her own children.
“I think it’s really important to know when supporting an organization that the funds are being used for a cause and I 100% know that this is an honest, full-of-integrity organization.”
– Christina Werner
She has a special love for the Mexican people and their culture, and says there’s nothing better than getting to share in this ministry with her children. We love stories like Christina’s, of people serving from the kindness of their hearts and sharing that passion with others!
