Unity 4 Orphans champion Nick Ospina sheds light on what drew him to our organization and the vision for expanding our programs to serve vulnerable children.
Spanish Speakers Help Volunteers Connect with Kids at the Orphanages
In early 2020, Nick joined the volunteer leadership team for service trips to orphanages in Mexico with U4O. He directs activities, brings a cohesive trajectory to the day, and facilitates communication as a Spanish speaker. Being bilingual is a highly valued skill, and he knew that he could put his talents to use for a great cause.
I really enjoy seeing volunteers interact with the kids. The main goal of every service trip is everyone having fun–kids and volunteers–and when that happens, I know it’s a great trip.

Discover Your Gift to Share With Vulnerable Orphanage Children
Our service trips have been going strong and we’ve seen incredible growth for our programs in Mexico. As Nick observes, the only thing you need to bring is a smile because the kids are happy with just your presence. It puts life in perspective to spend time with them, experience their gratitude, and get to know them.
If anything, these kids have taught me more about life than I could ever teach them.

Making Kids Feel Seen Helps Them Succeed in School–and Life
After four years working closely with U4O founder Joe Brandi, Nick has had a front-row seat in watching the ins and outs of what it truly means to support orphaned children. Many people see the fundraising events and special campaigns, but far fewer know the specifics of ensuring the kids have a home and a makeshift family.
Since bringing in regular counselors and teachers to help the kids overcome trauma and educational setbacks, we have seen positive changes in the orphanages in Tijuana across the board. The Mexico team is raising the bar and their impact is really making a difference in caring for the children holistically.
