A new school year has begun for the children Unity 4 Orphans supports in Nicaragua. It not only takes a village to garner the funds needed to provide necessary items, but also to obtain and distribute them to the kids, and we’re so grateful for our awesome community!
Coming alongside children in Latin America to offer them brighter futures is at the heart of Unity 4 Orphans’ mission, and this is never more apparent than at the start of a new school year. In Nicaragua, the students begin their year in January, and are required to wear uniforms to attend public school. This also includes black shoes for each child and it’s always exciting for growing kids to receive a new pair of shoes that fit properly!
The lack of proper uniforms and required supplies is often a reason kids in rural areas are not able to attend public school. Knowing this, we are focused on providing these materials because we place such a high value on education and empowering each child to reach their potential. We also provide backpacks filled with necessary school supplies and curriculum, giving them everything they need for a successful academic year. Although these expenses relate to education outside of U4O’s ESL program, providing these necessities falls in line with our mission to fight for brighter futures!
All of this adds up to a sizable cost per student, and is a big part of U4O’s fundraising efforts each year. Thank you to everyone who gave, helping us meet these important needs for the children we support! We also couldn’t do it without the dedication of our teachers and staff, who gave of their time and resources to gather and distribute everything to the kids. It truly takes a village to keep Unity 4 Orphans mission alive, and we’re so grateful for ours!
