Unity 4 Orphans’ partners in Masaya, Nicaragua have been serving vulnerable children by providing vital nutrition and are now offering education programming!
We’re excited to announce the expansion of our Nutrition 4 Change program in Masaya, which feeds local children living in extreme poverty. Through our dedicated partners at Jesus is the Way, we’ve begun providing tutoring and educational support throughout the week for a select group of students.
ESL Classes Open for Vulnerable Children in Masaya, Nicaragua
Many of the children we serve in Masaya live near the dump and must forage for food and items to sell, making daily life an unimaginable struggle. Education, the best tool for breaking the cycle of poverty, often takes a backseat out of necessity. Our longtime goal to extend our Education 4 Change program to these children has become a reality for a small number of students!
The Lord delights in meeting our needs; U4O delights in being able to fund these programs and be part of what God is doing in Nicaragua. We want to step into these spaces alongside our partners.
–Caitlin Snyder, Executive Director
After nearly a year of serving in Masaya with Nutrition 4 Change, we’ve deepened our investment by opening the first Education 4 Change program there. Access to education is a core value of our holistic approach. We see a great need in this area of Nicaragua and hope to grow our capacity to welcome students across the community.
Holistic Care is Vital to Help Children Rise Above Poverty
Our partners continue feeding the children’s bodies healthy food and their spirits with God’s love. With the addition of an education program, their minds are also being nourished and our hope is that these combined efforts will help guide them to brighter futures.
My prayer is that the Lord will change their hearts and this place will be filled with people who love Him and that the children feel it’s possible to break out of this misery cycle. I know we can help the kids do that.
–Keysi, Nicaragua Partner, Jesus is the Way
For years Keysi, Maritza, and a team of volunteers have been feeding children and teaching them that their lives are precious to God. Most local children lack access to quality protein and fresh produce. Feeding their bodies through regular feeding programs in their neighborhoods enables them to succeed in the educational opportunities Education 4 Change provides.
U4O Aims to Give More Children Educational Intervention and Support
When partner Maritza went through a difficult experience ten years ago she dedicated her life to serving the Lord and vulnerable people. She has been overseeing the program in Masaya for eight years. About 40 students are now receiving tutoring and educational support, a number we hope to increase as we become able to fund additional neighborhood locations.
This program is crucial as kids in this area often have poor diets. They typically only eat twice a day. Besides food, the key focus in all our soup kitchens is that we share God’s word so kids can grow, love God, serve Him, and have a better life as they grow up.
–Maritza, Nicaragua Partner, Jesus is the Way
We’re blessed to be partner with people like Keysi and Maritza who share our heart for God’s children! Our shared hope for the children of Masaya, Nicaragua is that the seeds planted through nutrition, education, and spiritual encouragement help them grow up healthy and experience flourishing in their lives.
