Sheril Brasher

Past Champion

My name is Sheril (some of the Mexicans call me Charito because it’s easier to say), and I am a full time missionary with YWAM (Youth With a Mission). YWAM is an international, interdenominational missions organization with locations (known as bases) all around the world. Ours is called YWAM San Diego/Baja. We have business offices in San Diego and 2 full operating locations in Mexico, San Antonio Del Mar (aka Tijuana/Rosarito) and Ensenada. Our particular base does a lot of things locally but mainly we build houses for families in need in the area, we facilitate short term missions trips for groups, and we train missionaries.

While I do not hold an actual education degree, I did study education for 2 years and was a preschool teacher & co-director for a school for about 7 years prior to moving to Mexico. I’ve been with YWAM in Mexico since 2006 and in the last five years have been focused on the educational aspect of our vision and goals.

For the last 4 years I have been specifically starting and growing a preschool on our tijuana campus for our missionary families and this past year has been dedicated to starting a K-12 school. This school will (hopefully) eventually be open to the local community but for now is in support of our missionary and student families.

Another goal we have through education is to create a place where people from around the world can come and receive training on how to implement a preschool, homework club, reading club, mobile school, etc in their own communities or churches.

My day to day consists of homeschooling, one-on-one prevention and intervention, teaching, and tutoring anything from Spanish to English to math, reading, science, social studies, history, geography, Bible, writing, etc for kids ages 6-14. I am also the youth pastor for our students ages 12-18 on our campus.
