Why did you originally get involved with U4O?

I heard about the amazing work U40 was doing through a trusted friend and decided to go on one of their Mexico trips. I was blown away by the major needs at these orphanages that were right in our back yard of San Diego. Kids were hungry and were living in extremely impoverished conditions. My heart was broken, and I knew I wanted to get involved in a deeper way. It was amazing to see the way U40 was serving the underserved, and bringing joy and love to these children who have no families of their own.

How long have you been involved with U4O?

I have been involved with U40 for over 3 years. Being on the board is one of the most rewarding things in my life. It’s amazing to work with an incredible leader like Joe Brandi who has the heart and passion to make a positive impact in the lives of these orphans.

What motivates you to stay involved with U4O?

The core vision that Joe has brought to U40 is “Relational Consistency.” As a board member, it is my commitment to represent that consistency in order to make a lasting change. Seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces when some of their basic needs are being met is what keeps me motivated. I learn so much from the kids, especially in the gratitude they have despite having almost nothing. Their thankfulness is very humbling and always makes me rethink our materialistic culture in America.

What do you do as a board member for U4O?

As a board member, I help with logistics, events, fundraising, support, and more.
